God breathed into clay. Life was created from the place where breath and earth meet and from that place births our creative voice.
The spiritual origins of early art are re-emerging in the 21st Century as a new genre known as Genesis+Art®. For centuries, prayer and spiritual practice have been intimately connected to a sacred story shared in community. Genesis+Art draws from the common elements of the creation story of Jewish, Christian and Islamic traditions. In this genre, the emphasis on the process brings forth the product. Guided by a time of prayerful thought and spiritual infusion, Genesis+Art moves from darkness to light and composes a written prayer. After inscribing the composition on the canvas, the accompanying visual art is created, thus permanently fusing the prayer and the painting. Spouses and artists Chuck Hoffman and Peg Carlson-Hoffman collaborate on their prayer and painting, working side by side on the same canvas. Through this interaction they transform the underlying prayer into physical existence. Through prayer, interaction, and creativity they draw closer to the immanence of God. This dwelling in the presence of God cultivates a sense of authentic wholeness where bridges of peace can be built.
